Wrong Eagles Win, Sharon B's Great Run Stopped in Worcester
The brilliant season by the Sharon B Eagles came to an end today as the Wolcott (CT) Eagles rumbled to a 40-24 victory at Worcester's Commerce Bank Stadium. The Massachusetts State Champion Sharon Eagles jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the second quarter, but the defense couldn't stop Wolcott's strong running game. Tremendous individual efforts by Sharon players kept them in the game, but Wolcott's big backs and aggressive line wore Sharon down in the second half. Nevertheless, a HUGE congratulations to Coach Shuman and his staff and the entire team and cheerleaders for a great ride through the playoffs. They are the 2008 Massachusetts State Champions and all of Sharon is extremely proud! Click for photos from the Massachusetts State Championship and today's New England Regional Championship Games.

Sharon B Eagles are Massachusetts State Champions!
The undefeated Sharon B team won the Massachusetts State Championship today with a tough 19-16 victory over the Eastern Mass. champs, the Watertown-Belmont Bulldogs at Malden Catholic High School's Brother Gilbert Stadium. This win, the B's 12th in a row, places them in the New England Region Championship game at Foley Stadium in Worcester this Saturday. Admission is $5 per person, $3 for seniors and children under 4 are free. More details to come. . . Now, not to jinx this thing, but we have to be prepared if the boys win the NE Regional Championship because the next stop is Disney World in Orlando, Florida for the 2008 National Pop Warner Super Bowl. We have posted the required forms on-line for players, cheerleaders, coaches and parents: one is the Disney Sports Waiver and Permission Form and the other is a complete we're-so-good-we-get-to-miss-school-for-a-week Pop Warner Super Bowl packet. Read them both, fill them out and return to the team manager before December 1st. Then win the @#$% game! In other words, go light on the turkey and stuffing and woop 'em in Worcester!

Sharon B Eagles Beat N. Middlesex, Win Regional Title
No details yet, but the most important thing is that the Sharon B's beat N. Middlesex in Foxboro today, 33-12 to take the underwhelming "New England (South? Southeast?) Regional Pop Warner B Division" title (or something like that). Great achievement, but we have no idea what to call it. The exciting news is that Sharon will play Watertown/Belmont next Sunday for the Massachusetts State Championship. Wow! Game is tentatively scheduled to be played at my alma mater, Malden Catholic High School's Brother Gilbert Stadium.

Sharon HS Sub-Varsity Slosh to a Rain-Soacked Tie
Congratulations again to the SHS Sub-Varsity football team for their 8-8 tie with Franklin yesterday. Through a drenching downpour that lasted the entire game, the Eagles scored quickly, then held Franklin to one score and a conversion. Holding onto the ball was a huge problem for Sharon as they fumbled no fewer than five times, giving their opponents plenty of opportunities to score. The defense was stout, however, and were able to preserve a soggy tie. Unlike the gray skies that clouded the muddy Middle School fields, the future of SHS football looks bright.

Rise and Fall: Sharon B's in the Super Bowl, C's and D1's Fall in Duxbury
The Sharon B's will cap their tremendous run with a spot in the Super Bowl following their decisive 20-0 victory against Wareham this Sunday. Not so fortunate were the Sharon C and D1 squads who fell in their playoff games in Duxbury. Sharon C had the lead through most of the first half before giving up a touchdown and conversion with 24 seconds left. A couple of big plays in the second half overwhelmed the Eagles to knock them out of the playoffs. The D1 squad, unfortunately, were never in their game, losing 32-6 against a playoff-ready Braintree team who ran wide and long against the Eagles all game long. The D2's had a bye this week and will play thier first playoff game later this week.

Sharon Mites Win Second Straight Munchkin Bowl
The Sharon Mites crushed Foxboro, 25-7, to win the annual Munchkin Bowl in Foxboro. The potent offense was energized with touchdowns by Austin Dodes, Ty Hippler, Xavier Hackett and a Jack Lesser-to-Vineet Alaparthi pass in the end zone. The Eagles (and coaches) showed a lot of grit and class as four quarterbacks handed the ball to 13 running backs throughout the game. Every player on the team played defense which stopped nearly everything Foxboro threw at them. Congratulations to players, coaches, team manager and parents for an extremely successful and enjoyable season.

Playoff Schedule
Sorry for the late notice, folks. Here's the scoop. The undefeated B's play tomorrow (Sunday) at 10:30 in Wareham. The C's play Sunday in Duxbury at 12noon. The D1 squad plays at 1:30pm, also in Duxbury. The D2 team has a bye this week. Go Eagles!

Sharon Pop Warner Regular Season Ends
Outstanding year for the Sharon B's, a very good season for the C's and Mites, and a satisfying outcome for the two D squads. All-in-all, another successful year for all Sharon teams who are all still playing into the post-season, with the Mites (5-3) in the Munchkin Bowl, the B's (8-0) and C's (6-2) in the Division 2 Hockomock Playoffs, and the D1 (4-4) and D2 (5-3) squads in the Hockomock tournament. On a beautiful, warm fall afternoon, the B's finished the season undefeated by beating Taunton, 34-19. The Sharon C's showed up, which is all they had to do to gain a disappointing 1-0 forfeit win against the undermanned Taunton C's (the C's beat the Tigers in an unofficial scrimmage, too). The Mites lost their final game, 14-7, but will play in the Munchkin Bowl in Foxboro this week. The D2's crushed Medway, 25-0, to finish above .500. And the D1 Eagles fell apart in the second half, losing to Taunton, 24-6. Post-season games, locations, dates and times will be posted as soon as we're told.

SHS Sub-Varsity Makes It Two-in-a-Row!
Break 'em up! The future of the Sharon High School football program looks better by the week as the Sub-Varsity Eagles win their second game in as many weeks. Under the lights at Foxboro High School, Sharon came from behind with a 4th quarter touchdown and 2-point conversion to defeat the Warriors, 8-6. Word out of Foxboro is that the defense was outstanding all game, particularly in a hard-fought second half. Way to go boys! Don't forget to bundle up and cheer for the Sharon Varsity, UNDER THE LIGHTS Friday night, as the Eagles go for their first win against Foxboro.

Up and Down Day in Frigid Lakeville
Two big shutouts and a Mighty squeaker saved Sharon teams overall in their day-long battle against Apponequet in Lakeville's Ted Williams Camp this Sunday. The Sharon B's won their seventh straight game easily, 35-0. The C's coasted to a 12-0 win against Apponequet. The Mighty Mites nearly beat themselves with four Eagle touchdowns called back because of penalties before managing a 13-12 victory (hey, a win's a win, right?). On the down side, Apponequet thumped the D squads as the D1's dropped a 19-12 decision and the D2's fell, 27-6. Both teams need a win next week for a chance at post-season play.

Week 7: CORRECTION - No Bye for B's; Sharon D2 Wins Big vs Norton
News sometimes arrives slowly to SPW Web-Land, but we keep going till we get it right. Evidently, the Sharon B team did play this past weekend, against Concord Carlise (a Division 1 team) and blew them out 28-12. The actual score was not reflective of the true blow-out nature of the win as the Eagles ran conservatively in the second half to keep the score down. Niiiiiiccccce. And, we just got the news that the Sharon D2 team avoided the plague of forfeits that came to the Middle School on Sunday and crushed Norton, 24-6. Going into this weekend's tilt with Apponequet, all five Sharon Pop Warner teams have a winning record, with the B's still undefeated and the other four teams at 4-2. Strong program.

Week 7: Mites Win, West Roxbury Forfeits 2 Games
The Sharon Mighty Mites easily won their game, 19-12, against West Roxbury this Sunday as disappointed Sharon players, coaches, parents and fans had to settle for two forfeit wins. West Roxbury was not able to field complete teams in the C and D1 games. The D1 team crushed an undermanned W. Roxbury D squad, who were game, but overmatched in an impromptu scrimmage. The C's also did not play while the B's had a rare bye this week. The D2 Eagles played Norton (score and outcome to be reported). After several straight games in Sharon, the Eagles travel to Apponequet next weekend in a slate of games with playoff implications.

Sharon Eagles vs. Mansfield Hornets on Saturday
The Sharon High School varsity football team lost a tough battle with Weston last week, 14-6, but played a very strong 4 quarters of football. While the Eagles are 0-4 overall, they have only one loss in the Hock, and they need your support in their upcoming game against league oppononent Mansfield. The sub-varsity plays the Hornets in Mansfield at 10am, followed by a big varsity battle at Sharon High's football stadium at 1pm. C'mon, Pop Warner players, parents and coaches. Let's fill the stands!

While the B's and C's crushed their Foxboro counterparts at the Sharon Middle School this Sunday, both D's fell, with the D1 squad taking a 24-7 beating and the D2's losing by a touchdown, 20-13. The B's continued their undefeated season with a tough 15-6 win over the Warriors. The C's crushed the visitors, 25-6. In the early game, the extra point made the difference as the Sharon Mighty Mites defeated Foxboro, 7-6. Next week, another home game, against West Roxbury at the Sharon Middle School (the D2's will play Norton). Go Eagles!

Week 4: Excitement at the Middle School
What an unbelievable day of football at the Sharon Middle School! Playing a smorgasbord of teams from Braintree, Mashpee, Sandwich and Mansfield, the Sharon Pop Warner teams went 3 for 5 in defense of their home turf. The D1 Eagles get the prize for the BGD (Big Game of the Day) by coming from behind and beating Mashpee 12-6 in their 3rd overtime in four games. The D2's pummeled the Mansfield Hornets, 29-0. The Sharon B's continued their dominance with a 35-7 shellacking of Braintree for their 4th straight victory. The losses came with an early morning shutout of the Sharon Mites by a tough Mashpee squad, while the Sharon C's got sandwiched by the Bulldogs, 22-7. Games this weekend are being played on Taunton's brand-new turf field. Lots of rules to keep the carpet clean: water only, no soda, no sports drinks, no gum, seeds or food of any kind, no pets, and only coaches, players, cheerleaders, refs and monitors are allowed on the field. Probably no chewing tobacco or bleeding on the turf either. Oh, and players, stay off the track. Otherwise, welcome to Taunton and have a great game (we're just jealous).

Week 3: Four out of Five for Eagles' Home Openers
Another successful weekend for Sharon Pop Warner teams as the B, C and D1 teams celebrated victories against Dedham in their home openers at the Sharon Middle School this past Sunday. The Eagle B's destroyed the Tomcats, 24-6, fighting the weather as well as Dedham throughout. In an exciting double OT battle, the C's beat Dedham, 12-6, with a series of tremendous defensive plays. The Sharon D1 team played into their second overtime session of the season, this time coming away with a hard-fought victory, 13-7, in an exciting game marked by several great defensive series by the home team. The Mites sloshed their way to a convincing 12-0 shutout at the Middle School, with a surpinsingly effective offense in terrible conditions. The D2 squad were defeated by King Philip at home, 27-0. Next Sunday the teams face a menagerie of towns including: Mashpee, Braintree, Sandwich and Mansfield, again home at the Middle School. Show up and cheer!

Once again, the Sharon Eagles Pop Warner teams go three-for-four in their slate of games on Sunday. Both D squads ran up great wins, with the D1 Eagles coming back from last week's heart-breaking OT loss to trounce the Sharks, 20-0. The D2's kept their winning ways with a convincing 23-0 win. The Killer B's overwhelmed Duxbury, 31-6, for their 2nd win of the season. Despite solid play on both sides of the ball, the C's were edged out, 12-6. The Mites played etxtremely well in their game.
